Annual boiler service: when and how
A boiler should be serviced once a year, ideally before winter, while you do not yet need the heating. During the visit the technician cleans the burner, checks the flue, adjusts the combustion and confirms the pressure and the safety systems. Reparon24 carries out boiler servicing in Porto and across Greater Porto: book on +351 928 286 711.

When to service your boiler
If your home in Porto has radiators, they are most likely run by a wall mounted gas boiler, a caldeira, which usually heats the tap water as well. Once a year is the usual interval. The right moment is late summer or early autumn, before you switch the heating on for the first time. If a worn part turns up then, there is time to replace it calmly, without a cold flat.
The annual service exists to avoid the emergency call on the first cold morning, when the boiler locks out and everyone needs hot water at once.
Signs you should not wait
Book earlier, even if the last service was a few months ago, if the boiler loses pressure every few days, the radiators are warm at the bottom and cold at the top, the boiler locks out with an error code, or the flame is slow to catch and pops when it lights.
What a boiler maintenance service includes
The visit starts with a short chat. The technician asks what you have noticed, because a noise or a drop in pressure points the checks in the right direction. Then it follows the same order every time:
- Cleaning the burner and the flame area
- Checking the flue and the ventilation
- Adjusting the combustion
- Confirming the safety systems cut the gas when they should
- Reading the system pressure and looking for leaks at the connections
- Bleeding the radiators if there is air in the system
At the end of the visit
The technician tells you what state the boiler is in and whether any part needs watching. If they find a fault, they explain it and give you a quote before repairing it.
What you can check yourself between services
You do not need tools to keep an eye on the boiler through the year.
The pressure gauge
Most boilers have a gauge or a display showing the system pressure, and the manual tells you the range it should sit in. Glance at it now and then with the boiler cold. If it keeps dropping every few days there is a leak somewhere on the system, and topping it up over and over only hides the problem.
Radiators cold at the top
A radiator that is warm at the bottom and cold at the top has air in it. With the heating off and the radiators cold, you can bleed it with a radiator key and a cloth underneath until only water comes out. Then check the boiler pressure, as it usually drops after bleeding.
The space around the boiler
Do not store products, cloths or boxes against the boiler and do not cover the air vents, because it needs air to burn properly. If you smell gas, close the gas valve, open the windows, leave the switches alone and, if the smell is strong, get out and call 112.
When to call a technician and how the visit goes
A service is booked ahead, at a time that suits you. If the boiler locks out, keeps losing pressure or leaves the flat cold, do not wait for that date: call +351 928 286 711 and ask for boiler repair in Porto. If you were searching for a boiler service near you, we cover Porto and the whole of Greater Porto, 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
The first call
A person answers. Give your address, the boiler brand if you know it and when it was last serviced. A photo of the boiler and its display on WhatsApp helps us bring the right parts. The visit time and how you would like to pay are agreed on the phone.
The visit and the quote
The technician does the cleaning and the checks and explains what they see in plain words. If a part needs replacing, you get a free quote before any repair. If it has to be ordered, we tell you how long it will take rather than inventing a date. If you rent, you can send the quote to your landlord before we go ahead.
The invoice
The invoice lists the work and the parts used. That document is your guarantee and what entitles you to complain if anything fails.
Boiler, water heater or electric tank
In Portugal the word boiler is also used for an electric hot water tank, the termoacumulador, so it helps to know which appliance you have before you book.
If it heats the radiators, it is a boiler and everything in this article applies. If it only heats water as you open the tap, it is a gas water heater, and the right service is water heater repair in Porto. If it is an electric tank, what you need is hot water cylinder repair.
Annual boiler service questions
How often should a boiler be serviced?
Once a year, ideally before winter. If the boiler shows signs of a fault in between, do not wait for the booked date.
My boiler keeps losing pressure. Will a service fix it?
The service will find the problem, but losing pressure means there is a leak on the system, often at a radiator valve or in the expansion vessel. We find the point and repair it instead of repressurising over and over.
Do you service all boiler brands?
Yes. We service and repair boilers of every brand.
Do I need to be at home?
Yes, or someone you trust. If a fault turns up, the quote has to be approved by you.
