What might be wrong with your cylinder
Back in the UK you might call it a hot water tank or an unvented cylinder. In Portugal it is a termoacumulador, or cilindro: an electric tank that heats the water and keeps it hot until you use it, and nobody thinks about it until the shower runs cold.
You do not need to know the name of the part. Tell us what is happening: no hot water at all, hot water that runs out fast, or water under the tank. Each symptom points to a different cause.
Cylinder not heating
The water runs cold at every tap and the cylinder seems to be on. Most of the time the heating element has burnt out or the thermostat has failed, and both parts are replaced without changing the tank. The breaker trips when the cylinder comes on
If the breaker trips every time the cylinder starts heating, there is a fault in the appliance or in the circuit that feeds it. Do not keep resetting it: that hides the problem and heats the installation. We test the cylinder on its own and then the circuit. If the fault is in the wiring, it becomes a job for an electrician in Porto, and one call covers both.
Hot water runs out fast
The shower starts hot and goes cold much sooner than it used to. When the cylinder heats but the water does not last, the usual cause is limescale settled at the bottom of the tank, taking up the space the water should fill. Leaking cylinder
